In-home and community support
At Aging With Comfort, we offer a couple of different services under the ODP waiver, which is a waiver for individuals with intellectual disability. One of the services that we offer is in-home and community support. Our most popular service is a one-on-one service in which we match the individual who needs support with a staff member. The service itself is individualized based on the individual needs. This service is based on what skill a person wants to learn, and it helps them obtain that skill and maintain that skill. For example, if an individual wants to learn how to live more independently, you would add this service. A staff member could help you learn skills for independence and everyday living skills and help you gain and maintain those skills. In-home and community support is all about gaining and maintaining.
Companion Support
Another service that we provide is companion support is strictly about health and safety. This would mean that you already have the skill, and when you have this skill, the only necessary thing is to monitor your health and safety while receiving this support. It’s a one-on-one service, very similar to in-home and community support. However, no skill is being obtained. It’s just about monitoring and making sure that there are no health and safety concerns during the time of service.
Respite Care
We also offer respite. Respite is a great service. In fact, my family has benefited from this service. Respite is for giving the natural caregiver a break. If there’s natural support in the home, such as mom, dad, brother, sister, or whoever is taking care of this individual who is on the ODP waiver, they can get respite support in their home, which means that a staff member comes into their home and stays for a day, two days. However, many days are authorized while the caretaker is away from home. This is helpful for things like business trips, funerals, or maybe a wedding or something that is taking place overseas, and you have a loved one afraid to fly. It is handy when you come into those situations or need a break. My family utilized this service when my father had open heart surgery because my dad is the natural caregiver for my sister. And he was unavailable for a temporary period of time. We were able to tap into this and utilize it to make sure that my sister maintained health and safety and also was able to maintain her everyday life.
Those are the three services we provide under the ODP waiver at Aging With Comfort. We are also in the process of starting up our community participation support program, which is geared more towards employment. There’ll be more about that later, but right now, those are our three services. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. I’d be happy to help.
